Poisoned chalice is the Villa job; already bored of OGS yes/no saga. Initially Lambert was my favoured choice; I thought that he would be interested in the post with what he has done at Norwich with his mandate to do much of the same on a bigger stage (Chris your comment regarding Norwich just being long ball team is wide of the mark; needs must). Then there are options with both Rodgers and Martinez. Again I'd have taken either but let us Villa fans be realistic these three mentioned managers won't even bother speaking to Lerner and Faulkner; reasons include (i) budget constraints – similar budgets at their existing clubs; (ii) increased pressure and expectation managing a perceived bigger club & (iii) Patience – poor first season then out of the door.
So rather than go through the circus of events as we did last season and allegedly knocked back by a number of individuals I would more than be satisfied with Gus Poyet and Kevin McDonald would be a good young team. Poyet young, ambitious and realistic and has done an excellent job with Brighton playing attractive football with Kevin Mc as his number 2 developing the 6-8 youngsters introduced last season. We know next season will be another challenge with a desperately thin squad; the manager will know from day one that he will be looking at free transfers, loan deals and players around the £5 million mark. So Gus and Kevin's first signing should be Graham Carr from Newcastle; if that fails maybe getting his son Alan would be an improvement on our existing scouting network i.e. Salifou; Makoun and mark my words Holman will be a flop!

Ed, I agree totally. It is simply pathetic that because he played alright (no, he wasn't brilliant) in his last couple, he gets a place, while crouch, holt and Sturridge have been playing well all season. Remember how unbelievably s**te Carroll has been ALL THE REST OF THE SEASON! Roy only put him in as he is the moat expensive English player and so he has a 'right' to be in the squad even though he is TERRIBLE.
