Crawley boss Steve Evans is hopeful of bringing in 1 player each from The Championship and League 1 on loan when the loan window opens on 8th September.

Charlton forward Paul Benson could join the Sussex side until January where the move could be made permanent. The former Dagenham & Redbridge hitman turned down similar moves to Notts County and Bradford City before the transfer window slammed shut on 31st August due to being unwilling to relocate from his London home despite Addicks manager Chris Powell being keen on letting the 32 year old leave The Valley.

Peterborough United midfielder Lee Frecklington is the second player on Evans' wishlist. The 25 year-old has fallen down the pecking order at London Road and boss Darren Ferguson wants to offload the former Lincoln City skipper. If the deal comes off then Frecklington will join on a loan deal until the end of the 2011/2012 season. Crawley face a battle for his signature however with fellow League 2 sides AFC Wimbledon, Gillingham and Northampton Town looking to guzump the Red Devils. Blue Square Premier clubs Luton Town and Mansfield Town are also interested.

id say downing is worth 20 million.

adam mc.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Is this valuation of downing because your club can afford him or you like him as a player

Agree0 Disagree0

More like 20p,he is average

Agree0 Disagree0

He's average? Then why does he get into the England first eleven then big man?

Agree0 Disagree0

He is a average premiership player, and as for the fact he gets in the england team, that doesnt mean he is good, andy carroll, jordan henderson, gareth barry, carlton cole and many other average players all have won england caps.

Agree0 Disagree0

Carroll and Henderson are not England first team starters yet, also Gareth Barry is a good player, he gets in the City squad thats filled with top players, and gets in the England starting 11 consistently. Downing won player of the year at Villa last year ahead of Young, who too is a top player, and had Arsenal and Liverpool bidding for him. He's been quality for Liverpool so far and England the last two games. You just say he's average because you have a hatred with Liverpool for some strange reason.

Agree0 Disagree0

England as a team are poor, how the likes if barry, milner and downing get in are a joke!! And if your gonna give henderson a cap then you might as well offer them to all outside of the stadium!

Agree0 Disagree0

So why are them players at top clubs at the moment and playing regularly? Mancini, Kenny and Capello know a hell of a lot more about football than you and know what makes good players. Your just a kid with an opinion, a one based on Fifa no doubt.

Agree0 Disagree0

Although i think Young is a good player i think Downing was better last night. Downing put a number of good balls into the box where as every time Young had the ball he would just do 5 or 6 stepovers then run straight into the defender. Young looked like a 1 trick pony and looks like he might strugle against any defender who will stand there ground

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeh he is not worth 20mil,are any players worth there transfer fee?but he is a good player.liverpool needed him and villa knew it so thats why we paid more.to say he is average is stupid.he can cross, hes got pace and he can play on both wings

just a thought!

why dont wales , scotland and n .ireland enter the johnstone paint trophy ? they may win it???
nooooooooooo.........they wouldnt win it!

maximus

Believable2 Unbelievable1

So your overrated players were lucky against wales at home and now wales arnt as good as the teams that enter that. Cant say much for England cn it. Get a grip

Agree1 Disagree0

1 nil or 3/4 nil its points in the bag. keep watching your sheep or you may lose them as well.....

Agree0 Disagree1

It doent matter how many points u get ur never gonna win anythin anyway

Agree0 Disagree0

The 3rd round of the jonhstone paint trophy has just be drawn!
the big guns are coming into the draw after been knocked out of the world cup!
macclesfield v wales.
n.ireland v rochdale
scotland v crawley!
still dont fancy your chances

maximus.

Agree0 Disagree1

I wouldnt fancy England against Macclesfield or Rochdale either looked very ordinary last night and very lucky. If Bellamy was playing it would of been totaly different Speed wouldnt of had to put on Earnshaw then either

Agree0 Disagree0

Dont talk sheep ! i mean crap!
we played awful and still beat you!
go and play in a field full of sheep and you may just beat them or whatever else you do to them! baa!

maximus

Agree0 Disagree0

"If Bellamy was playing..." coulda, woulda, shoulda, DIDN'T

maxipads

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry, but England are appalling and have been for years. Even the FA know it, as proven by the witchhunt mentality they adopted after the world cup. I really can't see teams like Germany or Spain even viewing England as serious competitors anymore. Struggling against a Welsh team that is vastly underpowered is shameful. The argument that good teams win when playing badly doesn't cut it at the tournaments where good teams play well consistently. Scraping results against poor opposition is not a sign of untapped genius.

Wolves to give McFadden a trial from Blues, if he is a success Wolves will sell Jarvis in the January window and buy Gary Hooper out right from Celtic as club transfer record

Billy Davies set for shock return to the City Ground?

Despite assurances that the Nottingham Forest managerial situation has been resolved Steve McClaren and the club have parted company during the international break. McClaren sought the advice of former mentor Sir Alex Fergusson who advised him in no uncertain terms to "get the hell out of that rats nest." It seems that McClaren on reflexion has decided to take that advice.

Nigel Doughty has now instructed CEO Mark Arthur to secure a replacement as soon as possible. Having already been knocked back by former manager Colin Calderwood and former target Sean O'Driscoll who see the Forest position as "unmanageable" Forest have a tough decision to make. Owner Doughty has made no secret of the current financial limitations on the club currently despite unsuccessful bids on several players such as Wesley Verhoek, Nicky Maynard and Wayne Routledge.

It is believed, from sources close to Davies himself, that a tentative approach has been made. With Davies currently still on the payroll, having had the last few months of his contract bought out in the summer, Forest are preparing to issue a "finish what you started" challenge to their much maligned former manager. It is understood from these sources that Doughty is prepared to secure up to three emergency loans now and up to three permanent acquisitions in January, with a few players being made available to other clubs in the same windows. These players will form part of the agreement for the next manager and will not be reviewed until the Summer.

It is not currently known what Billy Davies' current thoughts are on the subject but the club are struggling to resolve the situation quickly and amicably. With the ire of the fans already high following the failure in August Arthur knows they need to act quickly before the situation deteriorates further.

Villa to sign Steven Davis as soon as the transfer window opens in january for 6mill plus Carlos Cu?Šllar deal already agreed. Mcleish is also keen to bring in James McFadden if he can prove his fitness. Villa may also bid for Nikica Jelavic if goals are a problem between now and the new year and Big Eck can
persuade Randy Lerner to spend 10-12 million although Nikola ??igić may be a cheaper alternative.

Burnley miss out on YET another target as Stoke decide against allowing Ryan Shotton to leave on loan.

Burnley fans were led to believe this would be a permanent deal, then a loan and now ........nothing.

What Plan B has Eddie Howe got now? He probably hasn't as Burnley stumble on from one disastous transfer dealing to another. REEGATION looms large.

Will we be the first team in League One with parachute money?

Believable1 Unbelievable6

1. What the pants is reegation
2. we will be nearer to the play-offs than relegation
3. relegation with Jay Rod, Charlie Austin, Chris Mccann, Keith Treacy, Junior Stanislas and Ross Wallace ... i think not son !

I would sign Beats as cover Connolly's playing great but for how long wot if he gets a knock? with Barny's court case pending the only backup we have is Fort & Guly who can play up front that leaves Rickie.
with our wide men & midfield Rickie & Beats would be a real handfull in the box, free kicks & corners hard to handle.
Once he gets fit & sharp & pulls on that old Saints shirt with 26,000 on a saturday @ St Marys I think its worth a punt look a the difference Conno made at the end of last season
