Saviola to Arsenal was almost a done deal, but he was a luxury rather than a neccesity. Arsene pulled back when he learned Senderos was out for at least two months, Djourou is hurt, Clichy is hurt, and Ashley is brain dead, and he realized he had to buy at the back. Curtis Davies will come in for 8m. Thuram is possible for a year as Arsene wants an 'elder statesman' at the back with Sol's leaving. AW knows Almunia and Poom aren't a long term replacement for Jens, but he may go for Pele or either of Casillas or Buffon, whoever is out of favour (presuming Buffon is on his was to Real). Arsenal old boy Vieira is on his way to Lyon- the only person he hates more than RVN is Alex Ferguson, I'm not sure why Man U fans don't know/remember this.
As for Ashley, he's going to Madrid because his wife calls the shots.
The two or three more players Rafa mentioned are Kuyt (£8 million + Dudek), Zapater (£4 million) and Camornesi (Loan for 12 months). Traore (Charlton), Daio (Sheff Utd), Le Tallec (PSG) and Pongolle (Rennes) to leave.
I work in the backoffice of a large London based merchant bank. We have just processed a large euro payment to a subsidiary of one of the relegated Italian clubs on behalf of CAFC Limited (Charlton). My boss wouldn't say exactly who it was but said it's "a fee for a French national defender". The amount was around €2.5mn - not sure who you would get for that, maybe Lilian Thuram? Just to clear up a few issues that have arisen from some suprisingly unintelligent posts. Firstly to people claiming that Nuri Sahin would be unable to join Man U because Arsenal have been given first option as part of the Rosicky deal. Even if such a deal existed, which is by no means concrete (what does the Rosicky deal have to do with any further transfer dealings?), This would only mean that Arsenal would be informed if any club had made a bid. On this basis, Arsenal would still have to match any bid from opposing teams, and could still be easily outbid for the player.
Secondly to those saying that Patrick Viera has a clause in his contract forbidding him to join any other Premiership club... Do you really think such a clause exists!?? If Arsenal sell a player, it is because they feel that they are a sufficient team to cope without the player, and can improve without him. Why would they then care where the player ends up in the future? They have made the decision that they are better off without, they have no bearing on where he goes with his career, nevermind the fact that Arsenal would have expected the player to have stayed at Juventus for years to come, so the issue wouldn't have arisen during negotiations at all. Where do these people get their ideas from?
No deal is concrete untill it is finalised and all parties have signed on the dotted line, so all these people who claim to have a definate knowledge of the future are disillusioned. Stick to rumours and opinions, because definates do not exist. Do not count on or discount any deals going through untill the evidence is there and everything is finalised. Everything in business has a loophole, any player can join any team. Dont be surprised to see some very unexpected signings before the transfer deadline, along with some very expected ones being completed.

Valencia do want to sell star striker David Villa to fund a Christiano Ronaldo transfer. Valencia are also after Liverpool's Sanz Luis Garcia. Valencia want Christiano Ronaldo to play just behind Luis Garcia and Morientes in attack.
Valencia are keen to cash in on around £13 + Luis Garcia million for David Villa and then put in a £22 million offer for Christiano Ronaldo.

Juventus striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is wanted by Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea but looks most likely to join Barcelona in a £13m deal.

Nottingham Forest FC will unveil the signings of Duncan Ferguson (Calderwood's friend) and Sean Thornton (300 k) by the end of the week.

Manchester United will certainly be selling R.Van Nistelrooy to Real Madrid for at least £15million in the next 24-48hrs. Shortly after that, ManUtd. will launch a £20million offer for F.Torres first, if not succeed, they'll launch another bid at £25million. During that time, Kuszczak will come at £2.5-3million and Carrick at £10-15 million.
Also, Gattuso will certainly be coming to Old Trafford also, seeing that AC Milan will not be a good place to play football nect year. As for Viera, he MIGHT come, but i doubt it'll be for a permanent basis.

By tomorow we wil have completed the signing of 30 year old bernardo Corradi for a undisclosed fee (1m). He was on loan at parma last season scoring 10 goals in 35 games.
Also the signings of steed malbranque and Lua Lua will be completed by the end of next week leaving space for joey bartn to depart the club for a fee of 3.5million to middlebrough.
Finally the contract of sylvain distin will be finalised by the end of the week with him agreeing a 35,000 week contract, making him the highest played player.
