Gordon Strachan has targeted Hearts defender Jose Goncalves. Informal discussions took place last week between the player's agent and representatives of Boro. Goncalves who was close to being named in the Portuguese national team will be available for a nominal fee in January. Strachan has kept a close eye on the defender since leaving Celtic; Strachan had been keen to sign the player before he joined Hearts but was put off by the asking price and wages which Hearts at that time were able to offer. However Goncalves superb performances and availability has alerted Boro and should ensure Strachan eventually gets his man.

West Ham rumours
West Ham are hoping to have a takeover concluded before January so Zola will have money should he want it. David Gold is still being linked to purchase the club.
Defense:
Zola is concerned about the 2nd CB position. Ever since he allowed Collins move to Villa (WHY???) he has been concerned about the stability of the back four. In addition, he is doubting Faubert's ability at RB, therefore may look to replace him. There has been talks that Sol Campbell (Please no) could be convinced to sign for the Hammers. Along with this, Zola would like to bring in Davide Santon from Inter on loan to cover the RB. If this doesn't occur, then Paulo Ferriera of Chelsea has been mentioned.
Midfield:
Zola is very happy with the midfield at the moment and doesn't feel it requires much, if any, change. With players such as Stanislas and Collision coming through as well as the crop of talent already there, he feels that any change won't benefit the team.
Attack:
Franco will not be played as often after that poor performance against arsenal (commentator said his name about 3 times) and Zola will instead push Diamanti and Hines (who both performed superbly against arsenal) up with Cole and rotate the two. Nouble will get chances to play and Zola still hopes for Ashton to become fit. Zola, with Collins money, will still pursue another striker but will not push as hard as he did in the Summer.

Re the rumour of Sergio Busquets attending the Liverpool v Man Utd game last Sunday. Think your friend must have been mistaken as Busquets was playing that evening for Barca against Real Zaragoza at the Nou Camp. No approach has been made for Juan Mata, he is trying to use the name of Liverpool as a negotiating tool for a new contract with Valencia. Unfortunately Liverpool will not be making any substantial signings until we have secured Champions League football for 2010/11 and the £30 million that comes with it. That is unless anyone is stupid enough to give us our money back for someone like Babel.

My friend works in the lounges at anfield and there were alot of special guests at the man utd match on sunday. Apparently two parties who are both interested in investing in the club were being wined and dined all day. One group were scandinavian and the other were from kuwait. However, the most interesting sighting was that of Sergio Busquets of Barcelona who is rumoured to be involved in part of any deal taking mascherano to Barcelona.
