Colchester United manager John Ward has been contacted by the Leeds United board about the potential sale of Anthony Wordsworth. He is now seen surplus to requirements now Michael Rose has joined the U's as their main set piece taker.
The deal currently is surrounding a payment upfront of around £500,000 plus South African born Striker Davide Somma, 26, moving in the opposite direction.
The stumbling block reported in the local news is that Leeds United want a fee in return of around £50,000 for Somma, however, Colchester are believed to be holding out for a free transfer considering Somma has 12 months left on his current deal and Colchester have made it clear that accepting in their eyes a cut price deal for Wordsworth, Somma should leave on a free.

Southampton have joined the race for Portsmouth target Peter Whittingham.
Sources close to the club have said Saints are confident of sealing a £3m bid for the Cardiff midfielder and hope to poach the former Aston Villa man ahead of their closest rivals.
Whittingham however, has revealed his interest in Pompey and would prefer a move to the Blue side of the South Coast, although Nigel Adkins is confident of persuading him to join his St Marys revolution.
Whittingham is said to be put off by the horrible state of Southampton streets following the recent strike by local binmen, and will hold out for a move to Pompey should Cardiff accept their bid.
Boss Steve Cotterill is prepared to come back in with a £2.5m offer and Malky Mackay may have to give in to Whittingham's wishes.

Ipswich Town will announce the signing of 34-year-old verteran Lee Bowyer on a free when Bowyer returns from his holidays, a contract has been pre-agreed and will be signed early next week.

I wrote a week or so on Leeds, and they're astonishing lack of activity this transfer window.
My source at Leeds has spoken once more about the dealings at the club this week and I can report the following with 100% confidence.
Lee Bowyer wanted to join the club, and even cam to Thorp Arch to negotiate. This was his desired choice. Bates was offering £3k short of what he agreed with Ipswich. As I have said before, Ken is adamant that no player will break the wage structure.
Lonergan demanded £16k a week, which the club, rightly in my opinion, refused to pay. Discussions are ongoing.
Discussions continue with a number of other players. My understanding is there are a few high earners who have agreed in principle to join. This will affect who makes up the rest of our signings due to wage and transfer fee budget.(13)(3)

Leicester remarkable summer rebuilding continues with the club announcing the signing of Reading defender Matthew Mills.
The 24 year old who had been linked with Premiership side Stoke and wolves joins for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of 5 million and has signed a four year deal.
Mills, who will link up with another new boy Sean St Ledger in the centre of defence is the sixth player signed by Sven Goran Eriksson since the end of the season.
The former England manager had this to say about his latest recruit "Matthew is a quality defender and we are delighted to have secured his services." He is the latest player to pledge his commitment to us, which is another great endorsement for the work we are doing here at Leicester City.
